I hired Heath to create a trust for my son. My son is divorced with a young son that he shares joint custody with his ex. He owns a rental condo and a townhouse along with an IRA that he has been contributing to for twenty years. His estate is getting fairly large and he wanted to be sure his son would be provided for and with a trust he could determine how, when and by whom his estate would be distributed to his son. Heath met with my son and I, reviewed by son’s divorce decree, and then made recommendations. Heath used electronic mail to forward to my son and I, drafts of the trust, and ultimately the final signed copies. My son lives in Raleigh and I live 800 miles away. When I realized several years ago that my existing estate plan was lacking in some key areas, outdated and in need of major revisions, I asked various people in the community, whose opinion I respected, for recommendations for the best attorneys in the area for estate planning.  Bill Kratt’s name was mentioned frequently so I scheduled an introductory meeting with him.  I was impressed and very pleased with his low-key, friendly approach, his vast knowledge of estate planning issues, his genuine interest in my situation and desire to learn as much about me as possible in order to develop an estate plan that achieved all of my objectives rather than simply providing me with a ‘boiler-plate’ plan.  Bill asked questions that no other estate planning attorney ever asked me.  I engaged Bill to develop my estate plan with the confidence that it would be more complete and detailed than any of my previous plans.  I wasn’t disappointed.  Bill was very thorough and patient and took the time to explain all issues to me and answer all of my questions using everyday language rather than legalize.  When discussing the various decisions that I had to make, he explained the various alternatives and their strengths and potential weaknesses.  He made sure that I fully understood and agreed to each component of my new estate plan.  He worked collaboratively with the financial institution that I appointed to serve as Executor and Successor Trustee.  He carefully explained the benefits, in my situation, of changing the primary beneficiary for my financial accounts and investments.  Working with Bill gave me the confidence that I was making the right decisions for the future.  I would strongly recommend to anyone who is contemplating having an estate plan developed or having their current plan updated to consider Bill Kratt for the assignment.
